In a heartfelt act of kindness, Florence Girl Scout Troop 3255 donated 170 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to cancer patients at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert.
The donation, inspired by troop member Juliet Crofton, whose mother, Lindsay Radcliffe, is undergoing treatment for breast cancer at the center, was specifically allocated to the infusion area patients.
This gesture was part of the troop's broader support for Radcliffe during her treatment, highlighting the impact of community involvement in providing comfort to those undergoing challenging treatments.
The contribution was praised by both Radcliffe and Lisa Law, associate director of volunteer services, who noted the uplifting effect such acts of kindness have on patients.
Gilbert Breaks Ground on Luxurious Tuscany at Gabriella Pointe Apartment Complex
On April 11, the Frankel Family Trust, along with Gilbert Mayor Brigette Peterson and other community leaders, celebrated the groundbreaking of Tuscany at Gabriella Pointe, a new luxury apartment complex in Gilbert.
Located at 3545 E. Warner Road, this extensive development will ultimately offer 760 units across 39 acres, enhancing the mixed-use Gabriella Pointe area. The project, set to welcome its first residents in the summer of 2025, represents the Frankel Family Trust's commitment to creating a high-quality, amenity-rich living environment.
Mike Kron, Chief Operating Officer of the Frankel Family Trust, detailed the future amenities of Tuscany at Gabriella Pointe, which include multiple recreational and wellness facilities like a clubhouse, an athletic club, and various courts for sports enthusiasts.
The clubhouse will feature a game room, a cutting-edge fitness center, and relaxation spaces like a sauna and serenity garden. The athletic club will cater to active lifestyles with a basketball court, pickleball and badminton courts, and a dedicated strength and conditioning center.
The complex will also cater to pet owners with two dog parks and a dog washing station. For general wellness and leisure, there will be swimming pools, hot tubs, and outdoor social spaces equipped with modern conveniences like fire pits and barbeque stations. Living units will boast contemporary finishes including granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and Smart Home Technology for enhanced convenience and efficiency.
Construction, undertaken by Chasse Building Team, is scheduled for a swift 16-month completion for initial occupancy, with a phased approach to finalize additional buildings. This project not only aims to offer luxury living but also focuses on sustainability with energy-efficient features and dedicated areas for electric vehicles and ridesharing.
First Amendment Auditor Claims Targeting by Gilbert Police Over Email Warrant
Chris Ruff, a Mesa-based videographer known for his "First Amendment auditor" activities, has claimed that the Gilbert Police Department has targeted him by serving a search warrant to Google for access to his personal Gmail account.
Ruff, who uses his videos to critique police adherence to First Amendment rights, believes the search is an attempt to identify his sources within the department.
The warrant, issued on March 29, sought comprehensive details from Google about Ruff’s account activities between June 1 and July 17, 2023. Although the warrant did not directly name Ruff, it specified his Google ID. Ruff, who has posted numerous videos confronting police officers under the alias "Direct D," has ceased filming in Arizona following a bulletin describing him as a potential threat to police, which he claims has endangered his safety.
Ruff argues that the investigation won't uncover any misconduct in his emails but is concerned about the implications for his contacts' privacy and the potential exposure of confidential sources.
The Gilbert Police Department has confirmed that the search warrant was part of an active investigation into unauthorized access to the Arizona Criminal Justice Information System, which resulted in the public release of a sensitive bulletin. However, specifics of the investigation remain undisclosed due to its ongoing nature.
Ruff, who has a contentious history with local law enforcement, including a prison sentence for armed robbery and kidnapping, has expressed his intention not to contest the warrant legally, citing financial constraints. He asserts that his journalistic activities should be protected under the federal Privacy Act, defending his right to communicate with confidential sources.
