Desert Ridge High Robotics Teams Reign Supreme in Arizona, Set Sights on World Championship

Desert Ridge High School's robotics teams, the Mechanical Jagwires and the Nano Jagwires, have once again demonstrated their prowess in the field of competitive robotics by clinching the state championship title for the second year running.

The victory at the AIA Robotics State Championship, hosted by Desert Ridge, confirms the school's status as a leader in Arizona's robotics community. Collaborating with an independent team from Chandler, the Mechanical Jagwires showcased their skills in a tournament that drew participation from over 50 schools across the state.

Following their state championship win, the Mechanical Jagwires, along with the Build Award-winning Nano Jagwires and seven other distinguished teams, are gearing up for the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas. This global competition represents the pinnacle of youth robotics, attracting the brightest young minds from around the world to compete and share their innovative creations.

The VEX Robotics World Championship is a testament to the growth of competitive robotics as an educational tool that fosters interest in STEM subjects and encourages students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The challenges faced in these competitions, including designing, building, and programming robots for a constantly changing game each year, push students to think creatively and work collaboratively.

Desert Ridge's success is not just a matter of technical skill; it's a reflection of the dedication and passion of students, mentors, and the broader school community. From the after-school meetings in the back of a math classroom to the intensive preparation for the world stage, these young innovators have proven their mettle.

As Desert Ridge prepares to send its teams to the world championships, the school continues to inspire not only its own students but also younger generations in the local community through mentoring and support.

With a program that has grown in both size and achievement, Desert Ridge High School stands as a beacon of excellence in the world of competitive robotics.

Arizona BBQ Company in Gilbert Announces Closure

In a recent announcement that struck a chord with the local culinary community, Arizona BBQ Company, located at 1534 E. Ray Road, Suite 110, in Gilbert, has decided to close its doors for good on March 23.

This establishment, under the helm of Cordon Bleu-trained chef Mark Nichols, has been known for its unique approach to barbecue—smoking meats for six hours before braising them in a mirepoix to ensure juiciness and break down fats.

Despite efforts to adapt to changing times through business model adjustments and cost reductions, the restaurant cited the prolonged decline in patronage, compounded by today's challenging economic conditions and soaring operational expenses, as the primary reasons for its closure.

This marks the end of a beloved local spot that has served the community with distinctive flavors and culinary craftsmanship.

Hale Centre Theatre Presents 'Kiss and Tell,' A Comedic Tale from the 1940s

Hale Centre Theatre is set to entertain audiences with a delightful journey back to the 1940s through its latest production, "Kiss and Tell." Starting March 19, this comedic play will grace the stage on Monday and Tuesday nights, unraveling the hilariously complicated life of 16-year-old Corliss Archer.

Corliss finds herself at the heart of a comedic storm when she becomes the unwitting confidante of her brother's secret marriage. The plot thickens with a series of misunderstandings when Corliss, in a gesture of support, accompanies her pregnant sister-in-law to the doctor, only to be mistakenly identified as the expectant mother by a gossip-prone neighbor.

The ensuing chaos makes for a series of laugh-out-loud moments and charming confusion. The play's run extends through April 16 with performances at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., followed by an exclusive 7:30 p.m. slot from April 22 until May 21, taking a brief pause on May 13 and 14.

Ticket prices range from $32 to $48, offering an accessible entry into this nostalgic, laughter-filled escapade.
