Two New Measles Cases Reported in Southeast Valley, Exposure Sites Identified

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health has reported two new measles cases in the southeast Valley, linking them to exposures at several locations in Chandler, Gilbert, and Queen Creek.

Public health officials are collaborating with the affected individuals to track any further potential exposures and have released a list of places along with specific dates and times where the public may have been exposed to the virus.

These locations include:

  • Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream in Queen Creek

  • Honey and Vine Restaurant at San Tan Mountain in Chandler

  • Orlando Auto Body

  • Enterprise Rent-A-Car

  • Caldwell County BBQ in Gilbert

Residents who visited these locations during the specified times are advised to monitor for measles symptoms for 21 days post-exposure. Health officials emphasize the importance of vaccination to prevent the spread of measles, recalling the severe impact of the disease before the availability of vaccines.

The measles virus can linger in the air for hours, posing a risk even after the infected person has left the area. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, and a rash that usually appears three to five days later.

The health department urges anyone experiencing symptoms to self-isolate, contact their healthcare provider, and notify any medical facility before visiting to prevent further spread. For more information, visit https://www.maricopa.gov/Measles

The Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department is launching a public safety campaign titled "Take CHARGE," focusing on the safe use and handling of lithium-ion batteries.

These batteries power many of today's essential and convenience items, from smartphones and electric vehicles to wheelchairs and power tools. Despite their ubiquity, lithium-ion batteries pose significant fire risks if damaged, improperly charged, or exposed to extreme temperatures.

The "Take CHARGE" initiative aims to educate the Gilbert community on preventing battery-related fires through proper product selection, careful handling, and appropriate disposal. By spreading awareness on how to identify the signs of battery failure and the importance of recycling, the department hopes to safeguard both residents and emergency responders.

Additionally, Gilbert Fire & Rescue advises homeowners to register any battery energy storage systems or solar panels to aid firefighters in the event of an emergency.

Savor the Flavor: 'It's Just Wings' Debuts in Gilbert Gateway Towne Center

"It's Just Wings," a culinary concept originally launched online by Chili's, has expanded its presence into the physical realm with a new location in Gilbert.

Nestled in the bustling Gilbert Gateway Towne Center at 5016 S. Power Road, this establishment brings a focused menu that celebrates the simple yet universally beloved dish: wings. Patrons can choose between bone-in and boneless options, each customizable with a selection of 13 distinct dipping sauces.

This marks a significant step for the brand, which had previously operated exclusively online, as it ventures into offering its flavorful fare in a tangible setting to the Gilbert community.
