Arizona Abortion Ban Faces Legal Battle Led by Gilbert Physician

Dr. Eric Hazelrigg, a Gilbert-based obstetrician/gynecologist, filed an appeal that has led the Arizona Supreme Court to review the enforcement of a near-total abortion ban in the state.

Hazelrigg disagrees with a lower court's decision that abortions performed by licensed physicians are legal up to 15 weeks of gestation, arguing that an older 1864 law making abortions illegal except to save the mother's life is still in effect.

If the state Supreme Court rules in Hazelrigg's favor, nearly all abortions in Arizona would be illegal, except in cases to save the mother's life. Oral arguments are scheduled for December 12, and the decision's timing is uncertain.

Troy Aikman praises Brock Purdy's performance as San Francisco's starting quarterback on Monday Night Football. Purdy, a graduate of Gilbert Perry High, has led the 49ers to a 3-0 start this season.

Aikman, who was coached by Steve Axman, who also coached Purdy, acknowledges Purdy's poise and accuracy. Despite being the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy has thrived in the 49ers' system.
