Arizona Lawmakers Take Aim at Biden's Monument Designation Around Grand Canyon

Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen and House Speaker Ben Toma plan to sue the Biden Administration over the recent designation of the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument, which covers nearly 1 million acres around the Grand Canyon.

They argue that the designation is a "dictator-style land grab" and an overreach of presidential authority. The monument is meant to preserve cultural and sacred sites for several Indian tribes and block new uranium mining claims.

While a lawsuit is in the works, it faces a challenging path, as previous attempts to challenge monument designations have been rejected by the courts.
